Quick, Efficient Ways to Unwind At Work

With spring being here, one of the best things you can do is open the windows in your office and more importantly, go outside and bask in the sun. Most people don’t take advantage of their lunch break properly. With tight deadlines, people often spend their lunch break at their desk as they munch on food and type until their hands are arthritic. Sitting at a desk for hours is not only unhealthy but believe it or not, it reduces productivity. Still, most people can’t seem to break this bad habit. Taking a few breaks throughout the workday is necessary. You should never feel guilty for taking some time to recharge. Keep reading to learn how you can quickly unwind at work. These methods take less than 30 minutes!

1) Incorporate Meditation Into Your WorkDay

Slowly inhale and exhale while staring at the ceiling for sixty seconds. Looking up at the ceiling affects the parasympathetic nervous system or nerves arising from the brain to the lower spinal cord that supply internal organs, blood vessels, and glands. Upon looking up, your blood pressure will lower, and your breathing will occur at a slow pace. Counting in your head also helps you to shut off overwhelming thoughts that may be troubling you.

2) Relax Yourself

To reduce stress, relaxing seems like a given but people often obsess on getting the job done well. Remember to enjoy your lunch and don’t bring your duties to lunch with you. Spend lunch with your favorite coworkers, read your favorite book, listen to your favorite songs, or have an outside picnic. Most of all, don’t stress over being perfect. Perfection doesn’t exist. You are only human, and the best you can do is try your best.

3) Take A Cheat Day or Two When Eating

Eating healthy along with consistent exercise are two of the best things you can do for your body. However, it’s ok to have a cheat day once or twice a week. Eat the foods that you enjoy the most and motivate yourself to work it off later. What’s better than eating a great meal in the middle of a hard workday. It gives you a reason to step away from your desk and indulge. Just be careful of portion sizing. If you overeat, you may not be motivated to work as efficiently or productively as before.

4) Take Notes On What Causes Your Anxiety

Whether you’re frustrated with clients, work policies, or things going on at home, jotting down your frustrations helps to put things in perspective. Then, after sitting your notes aside for the day, you come into work the next day or go home with a positive attitude, ready to work on the things that are bothering you.
