It is likely that you will have to go to some type of healthcare facility sometime in the near future whether it is your primary care doctor for a checkup or a specialist.  The design of the specific healthcare facility affects your visit, so it is essential that it is a well-designed area.  Healthcare facilities are constantly evolving to meet the needs of patients and increases the effectiveness of providers.  If you are in the process of a designing your medical or healthcare facility, you should stay up to date on the current design trends.

Comfort is Key

If you are having an extended stay at a hospital or just sitting in the waiting room, you want to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible.  The healthcare industry is currently focusing on providing patients with a “home away from home” aesthetic during their stays.  Patient rooms are designed with matching furniture collections consisting of wardrobes and bedside cabinets.  There is also a focus on simplicity in patients with a need for noise reduction and natural light.

Multi-Purpose Furniture

Today, there is limited space in healthcare facilities around the U.S., but the number of patients visiting these facilities is not looking to decline anytime soon.  So it is critical to stock hospital rooms with furniture that can maximize space in a room as much as possible.  When designing a room, think about furniture that has a wide range of uses such as beds with electrical access and underneath storage for pillows and linens.  Multi-purpose furniture will make life easier for both patients and providers that are taking care of them.

Safety Is Critical

It is important to design your healthcare facilities with patients with mobility issues in mind.  Make sure to include enough furniture to assist in a patient traveling around their room easily.  It is essential to include rails and support beams on the side of the walls and as well and beds with enough back support.
