Is It Time to Invest in a New Office Chair?

We all know that it’s important to replace items when they begin to wear out. We keep an eye on our car tires and replace them once the treads deteriorate. Lightbulbs that have burnt out are quickly changed out for new ones. But when was the last time you replaced your office chair? Believe it or not, office chairs have a lifespan and should be replaced periodically but most offices don’t even think about it until they begin squeaking uncontrollably or literally falling apart. In this week’s blog, we’re going to look at tips and tricks to know whether your office chair has seen better days and if it’s time for an upgrade.

Is It Time to Invest in a New Office Chair?

Is it comfortable?

The average American spends 8 or more hours a day sitting in their office chair so comfort should be your number 1 concern. If you begin to notice your chair is less comfortable than it used to be then it’s time to thinking about changing it out for a newer model. An uncomfortable chair will leave you fidgety and distracted, harming productivity and morale.

Are you achy by the end of the day?

Sometimes you might not notice that your office chair has gradually become more uncomfortable. But if you notice yourself feeling achy and sore by the end of the day then that’s a clear indicator that your current chair is no longer meeting your needs. Your back is most likely to let you know it’s time for a new chair.

Are the cushions in good shape?

Cheap office chairs are often covered in a thin layer of low-quality foam that quickly deteriorates. If your cushions are flat and no longer springy then they probably aren’t keeping you comfortable. While a good chair will mold to your body, if the cushions feel like they offer you no support then it’s probably time to look into a newer, higher-quality model that will last you more than just a few years as cheaper models often do.
